Player Name: Cece

AIM: Sophoslight

Character Name: Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation, Zuko
Canon source: Avatar: The Last Airbender (cartoon series)

Personality:
Zuko started out a pretty bitter and angry teen at the start of the series. I take him from the middle of the third season, just after he and Aang have learned how to bend fire properly thanks to the Sun Warrior tribe. At this point he has evolved in many different ways and has come to grips with the fact that he can't act against his conscience. He doesn't know how to stay a very positive person but he is determined to be a good person and is not a quitter. He has become less angry but is guilty about his past and wants to make up for betraying his uncle. The key to that is fulfilling his role as a fire bending teacher to Aang.

Zuko still carries some parental issues but is mostly concerned about gaining his uncle's forgiveness as well as acting that way his uncle has taught him, to be true to himself. He's unafraid of speaking out now, especially against actions that go against what he thinks is right. He is used to being unpopular. Zuko is openly expressive about his emotions, especially when he is frustrated. However, while he has become a good listener, he is still learning to be less stiff and rigid, as well as a better friend.

Zuko is not used to being optimist. He's just a very determined person who doesn't give up not matter how many times he has failed. And he's used to failure. He is independent, resourceful and is always alert to his surroundings. He's had to learn how to survive by himself and can be seen as a loner. Zuko is on a quest to redeem himself and his honor. He is concerned about atoning for his own mistakes when it comes to the Avatar. He is not very talkative and has a gruff demeanor. For all his gruffness, Zuko is very loyal and protective of those he cares for.

History:
Zuko is the son of Fire Lord Ozai and Princess Ursa, royalty of the Fire Nation. People from the Fire Nation are known to have the power to control and manipulate the element of fire. Zuko is one of these people, a Firebender. Growing up, he had a more gentle disposition than his sister Azula and was a less skilled Firebender and less ambitious person when compared to her. His family's a huge mess. More on that in the later paragraphs. Anyway, Zuko was born in a time where for a few generations, the Fire Nation has been trying to take over the world by conquering all the other element nations.

When Zuko was about ten, his father Ozai wanted to take over the throne and overthrow his older brother Iroh who lost his son and was unable to defeat the Earth nation by not taking over the city of Ba Sing Se. His conspiracy was discovered though and as a punishment he was told that he had to kill Zuko. Since Ozai was always disappointed in Zuko, he made no severe objections. However, not wanting Zuko to die, his mother did what is only described as "terrible, treasonous and treacherous things" that eventually led to Ozai's ascension to the throne and her banishment. Zuko has no idea where she went and hasn't seen her since.

When he was thirteen Zuko attended a war meeting and during that meeting, objected to a plan that called for the sacrifice of many soldiers as bait. At this sign of disrespect Zuko was challenged to a duel called Agnai Kai. Unaware that he would fight his father, Zuko accepted. However he publicly refused to fight once he realized who he would duel. Unfortunately, even as Zuko asked for forgiveness, his father burned him on the left side of his face and banished him from the Fire Nation. Ozai told Zuko that he could not return unless he found the Avatar.

At the time of the series Zuko has spent the last three years looking for the Avatar with his uncle and a small crew, which gains momentum once Aang is unfrozen after his 100-year disappearance. Zuko's uncle Iroh has taken Zuko under his wing and trains him to be a better fighter and Firebender. It is clear that Iroh, who learned a lot at the death of his own son, is a positive influence on Zuko. Zuko comes close to capturing Aang a few times until Admiral Zhao also realizes the Avatar is alive. Aang is captured by Admiral Zhao but freed by someone called the Blue Spirit, who turns out to be Zuko. Zuko frees him then because he wants to capture the Avatar himself in order to return to the Fire Nation.

During the siege of the North, where the Northern water tribe lives, Zuko manages to capture Aang's body while he is on a spirit journey. Unfortunately Zuko becomes trapped in a blizzard with the body and is almost frozen until Aang and his friends decide to save him anyway. Zuko is still determined to find the Avatar to be released from his banishment and gain his father's approval. During their search for the Avatar though, Zuko's sister Azula finds them and tries to capture them, claiming that they are seen as traitors to the Fire Nation.

With not much left, Iroh and Zuko decide to join the refugees in the Earth Kingdom. At this point Zuko is so tired of losing that he separates from his uncle. He spends time reflecting upon his life and tries to help an Earth kingdom village. He becomes less ashamed of who he is but is seen as scum by the Earth Kingdom village. He leaves confused as ever. He reunites with his uncle and runs into Aang and his friends on their way to Ba Sing Se. His sister Azula has been tracking them and things come to a head when Azula hurts Iroh in a confrontation. As a result, Zuko decides to try and reform his own life at the advice of his uncle. It works for a while until Azula takes over Ba Sing Se and gives Zuko the choice of siding with her and going after the Avatar who also happens to be in the kingdom at that time.  During the fight, it seems as if Azula kills the Avatar.

Zuko betrays his uncle and sides with Azula. But he can't stop his guilt over betraying his uncle and visits him often in jail when they all go back to the Fire Nation. Zuko is restored as the Crown Prince of the Fire Nation.  Unfortunately Azula has also set him up by claiming that he killed the Avatar, instead of her, just in case the Avatar isn't dead. After some time, Zuko learns that he is not only the descendant of the Fire Lord who started the war but of the previous Avatar named Roku. And in order for this war to end, balance must be restored to all nations.

Zuko wrestles with his angst and conscience until he ends up back in the war room with his father where he accidentally helps plan the destruction of the Earth Kingdom. When his father approves, Zuko realizes that he can't have his father's love and approval without betraying himself and decides to take a stand against his father and Azula. He leaves to help train the Aang firebending and save his uncle, who manages to escape from prison before Zuko arrives.

Finding team Avatar, he tries to prove his changed ways and offers to teach Aang firebending. Aang can't find anyone else and tentatively trusts him. Unfortunately, Zuko has to first learn how to firebend without rage and anger driving his fire skills. He travels with Aang to learn how learn how to firebend properly from dragons living under the protection of the Sun Warrior tribe. On their return trip, he is suddenly 'ported into a colony.

Strengths:
Zuko's main strengths are firebending and dual sword wielding. Firebending is essentially the power to control fire as an element in any situation. He can build walls of fire, shoot fire cannons, and maintain this discipline while using his swords. He cannot control the element of lightning but can redirect lightning energy. He used to work in the army and trained heavily under his uncle, an army commander. He's at his physical best for a guy who's 17 years old. Other than that, he is a creative adapter in fighting and survival. He's pretty agile, doesn't get sick very often and is extremely stubborn about winning or getting his way. Zuko is also good at traveling steathily. He is trained in infiltrating locations and disguises.

Weaknesses:
His temper, his guilt complex, his rude manners, lack of strong social skills, his power to be emo
